Born in Essex in the United Kingdom, Mike started competing at the age of 29 and went on to break the British Record in his first competition before representing England in the World Championships that year and winning his first World Title. He is a member of the British Drug Free Powerlifting Federation (BDFPA) and is an avid supporter of drug free lifting, the BDFPA is affiliated to the World Drug Free Powerlifting Federation, which is the worldwide governing body and follows International Olympic Committee and World Anti Doping Association rules, including vigorous drug testing. In December 2009, Mike appeared on his own Sky TV show, on the Active Channel, named after himself and his DVD "The Bench Press King". The TV show was to prove a huge success and has been repeated numerous times which continues to attract over 50,000 online views and downloads. Regarded by many as the best pound for pound Bench Presser the country has ever produced, Mike claimed nine World Titles before finally sucumbing to a shoulder injury in 2010. The Injury required major surgery (Sub-Acromial decompression) Rotator_cuff_tear and Mike was advised that his lifting career was finished. With determination, Mike bounced back following a period of gruelling rehabilitation and physio. He fell off the radar not for long to retain his bench press titles and world records.
